| Preferences | Remembers settings such as a dismissed notice | Yes |
| Analytics | Counts visits and shows us which guides are read, so we can improve them | Yes |
| Advertising | Delivers ads, limits repeats, and measures whether ads were shown | Yes |
A note on advertising cookies
We show ads from third parties, including Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this website or others. Google’s DoubleClick DART cookie is one example, and it allows Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Turn off personalised ads at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of many other vendors at aboutads.info and the Network Advertising Initiative. Opting out does not remove ads; it only stops them being tailored to you.
How to change your mind
- Use the cookie notice or the cookie settings link in the footer to change or withdraw consent.
- Delete or block cookies in your browser’s settings. Instructions are in the help section of every major browser.
- Browse in a private window if you want cookies discarded when you close it.
Blocking every cookie may stop some features working. We do not respond to browser Do Not Track signals because there is no agreed standard for doing so, but the controls above remain available.
Questions about cookies are welcome through the Contact page. We update this page when our use of cookies changes.
